Many sacred sites have a large number of almost randomly placed rocks on the surface that have significance but which are not built into noticeable piles. Coming along and trying to study the place, it would take some experience to even guess what might be important and what might be negligible. Placement of single rocks, not just rock piles, is very subtle. So, to build a rock pile there would be likely to destroy some of this subtle information.
Unless you know every rock there, you should avoid moving, adding, or removing anything from a sacred site.
