Rock pile near the parking lot at Walden Pond

It probably does not mean anything but walking past the Walden Pond parking lot (Walden Pond is a state park) I noticed a smeared rock pile:
As I recall, there was a Thoreau-related rock pile but looking it up online (see here in the right hand column) I realize it is the location of his cabin that was mysterious. No one lost a rock pile.

The rock pile at Walden Pond is impressive because it contains so many stones from all over the world. Some are painted, some have signatures or poetry written on them. Some were cast on the heap by famous people. But it strikes me that for as many people who have been casting stones on that pile for decades, it remains surprisingly puny compared to some of the mammoth piles I've seen in the field.
